Cape Town’s own King Hustle is ready to dominate and take over Joburg. Phezulu is the second single to come off Snarks Ou‘s sophomore album “Firewax”. The single which was produced by Roky Bang was released on Thursday the 16th of July. The single is unlike anything we’ve ever heard before from Snarks Ou. The content is raw, unapologetic and it contains intricate flows. Snarks Ou is constantly improving his work and judging by this single one can tell that Snarks Ou is ready to take South Africa by storm.
Snarks Ou is a self-acclaimed Xhosa trap rapper from Khayelitsha in Cape Town. Snarks Ou is currently based in Joburg where he hustles his way to the top of the rap food chain. He started rapping in 2008 as a form of expression. His outstanding flow, prowess on the mic and abilities to leave his audience nonplus made it difficult to ignore Snarks Ou. It wasn’t long until he became a house hold name at local shows and events. Eventually the Hip Hop bug bit Snarks and he knew that it was going to be his proffered career choice.
Being raised by a single mother taught Snarks Ou the importance of hustling and assiduousness. Snarks would use the money he made from shows to construct his own home recording studio. Hustling has been assimilated into Snarks Ou’s core. His repertoire of achievements include appearing on SABC 2’s Hectic 99, Cape Town TV’s Ekse, YFM and his single being played on 5fm. Snarks Ou has performed alongside artists such as Tumi, Reason, Driemanskap and Kanyi. Early in 2012 he was profiled on uMhlobo Wenene. In 2013 his Album Iqala Kanje, which he released independently sold more than 500 copies in three months. Snarks Ou was also the first underground Cape Town artist to perform at the Back To The City Festival (The biggest hip hop event in Africa).
Snarks Ou is living up to his “Hustler” status which he is known for. Having achieved so much at such an early age is an achievement in itself for the Khayelitsha native. Firewax is expected to be released late in 2015. Snarks Ou is an ambassador for Cape Town and every single day his hustle gets stronger and his music gets better and more mature. We hope to see Snarks Ou on our TV screens more often so that he may be an inspiration to up an coming Cape Town artists. Be sure to keep an ear on the ground for Snarks Ou’s “Phezulu” which will be doing its rounds on local airwaves very soon.
