One2 Overtuned Productions is a collective of friends, producers, creatives and rappers. Above everything else One2 Crew is a recording stable. They record, produce and master their own work. They grew their business by recording for other artists, producing beats and by creating their own shows and merchandise.
One2 Crew members include Dizza, Masta Q, Smooth, Common, Viva, Trigga, Wester, Carta, Crimy Flip G, Vietro and Virus. Musbha/MultiverseBeats and P.raBeats are the official producers of the stable. Most of the lads at One2 are coy individuals, however if they were to perform one would find it difficult to believe that they are the same people.
Looking at One2 now and looking at them when they started with this rap thing I have to say that I’m impressed by the progress they have made. I remember when they first started, they had no apparatus to work with but they had that burning passion. They didn’t have much to work with but they put what little they had to good use. Their poky studio was their “man cave” and their work space all in one. A few times I would go to Master’s place and I would find the guys meditating to new sounds they had produced while the blunt was being passed around. That was one of the things that got me drawn to One2; they had and still have that element of unity and of being a family. Occasionally I would find the guys either writing lyrics, fixing computers so that they could record or just jamming to some hip hop joints. The assiduousness of the crew as a collective was something of a foreign nature to me. Another aspect that I liked about One2 was their captivating performances that would leave the onlooker in awe. Most of them all taught themselves how to use all the necessary production software’s. The skills they acquired were basically empirical if one were to observe from a spectators point of view.
One2 was one of the first Spaza crews to originate out of Masiphumelele. In no time the guys had already attracted a cult following. Their dream to be successful was probably their Incentive to grow as quickly as they did. It wasn’t long until they decided to release their first mixtape. The team organised a free event when they launched their first mixtape and on that day they sold all the copies they had printed. Might I add that I still have my copy? From there on One2 crew grew from strength to strength. They continued to dominate local open mic sessions, parkjams and shows. It wasn’t long until they started performing in other townships.
One2 often releases singles to keep their fans satisfied. In 2014 they focused on introducing their artists individually. Smooth, who is one of the few Motswako artists in Cape Town, released his first EP in November, 2014. Other One2 artists have also released solo singles throughout the year.
Carta, a founding member of the crew will be dropping his long awaited debut EP this year. One2 is also planning a Mini Tour around Cape Town to promote the brand. One2 Crew is a good example of passion turned to a possible career. In my opinion One2 is one of the most dominating spaza crews in the South Peninsula. I would even go as far as saying they are the quintessence of spaza music. Be sure to look out for them because they might just surprise you.
